We spent a couple of hours in the morning walking around the nature park around the cider apple growing area before continuing south towards what Catherine described to me as, ‘The Stone Henge of Sweden’, otherwise known as Ales Stenar. It was a 1.5k walk from the car park towards the coast and consisted of a 1400 year old monument in the shape of a ship, made up of 59 large stones perched on a hill. The views on the coastline were lovely and was dotted with cattle. We found a spot nearby for the night.
Next
morning we headed back to the city where we first fell in love with Sweden,
that of course being Malmo. We parked in the same recreational park as before
which is a good 16km out from the city but makes for lovely quiet surroundings
and a nice cycle into the centre which we did the next morning. We stopped off
and had breakfast at the same place as we had previously before exploring a few
areas of the city we hadn’t the first time. We stumbled into a bizarre art
exhibition which was meant to demonstrate the evolution of life on from the
ocean, or something along those lines. We then headed for the old town which
was pretty where we came across another museum which was about design and
textiles in the city. Still full from breakfast we decided to head to the open
air bath house which was previously our first experience of a Swedish bath
house. We spent a good couple of hours cooking ourselves before plunging into
the sea which was considerably cooler than before!
We then
went for lunch at a place that we wished we went to for breakfast as it not
only had French toast but it did an amazing scrambled tofu breakfast that we
were fighting over. We decided to make our way back checking out a couple of shops
on the way as we wanted to stock up on our favourite Swedish chocolates
(Delicatobolls) which are surprisingly vegan. This is our last night in Sweden
as we are planning on heading over to Denmark tomorrow which will be sad but
its been great to visit as much of Sweden as we have managed and we look
forward to what Denmark brings.
